Yesterday, I had lunch with a guy and we talked about why people prefer GUIs to textual interfaces with the computer. I don't prefer GUIs, and I made my usual argument that language is how humans think, and therefore since a text-based interface uses language, it is better. He said that when people a confused, they like to cautiously explore, which is what they are doing when they explore the menus in GUI programs. One of us used the term "self-documenting."
